Immergrün
2021
For her new work IMMERGRÜN, Loredana Nemes took portraits of long-standing couples in the summer of 2020 who had come forward as lovers in response to her appeal in the Ludwigsburger Kreiszeitung. She combines her quiet, mysteriously abstract black-and-white portraits with shots of evergreen plants and adds another layer to these images with poems.
Old people are not an ideal of beauty in our culture. The representation of old age in art and media can be described as taboo. The couples Loredana Nemes has spoken to and photographed are women and men whose love and intimacy she captures in analogue double exposures, visualising, as it were, the fading and passing of us all. Her poetic images and poems are a tribute to age and love as well as a celebration of human encounter in times of social distance. The result is a sensitive artist's book that also creates a multi-layered whole in the selection of materials and the narrative flow.
